Uncorrected machine reading. This text was read by machine (Apple Vision OCR) from a scan of a newspaper page, and the page was cut into articles by machine, at the headlines found by their type size. Nothing has been corrected: expect misread words, text from a neighbouring article, and titles that are the machine reading of the headline, some of them only fragments. Quote from the scan, not from this page.
How this article was cut and titled: headline found by type size in the OCR geometry (split_tabloid.py); 1-2 of 6; machine-segmented newspaper page; uncorrected Vision OCR.

The views expressed in the 9 January issue on NHS Consultants must not poss without comment. It is said that the consultants, to a man, are in effect a group of money-grabbers who with to hawk their trade'. It is true that many are eng aged in private practice in ways which are unattractive to many people. But if 1 in tum may be allowed also to make a sweeping generalisation, then it is also true that many of them work greatly in excess of their reward.

Why have we not seen any leader in their good will taken for granted, conssiltants are at last beginning to say. We refuse to do unpaid extra time any long ar, and our society, which condones endeavour, must recompense? Surely a If we are to see stark, deralier wards as depicted on your front pege, in the ants, then the rules must be absurd, and we should thank the consultants for doing so much more than is laid down for them, thereby keoping the SNOT DOE Scant referance was aiven to the drastic point that we should make the NHS so good for the patiants and rew ards nood enouch for the consultants that private practice would not be a Your articles should concentrate on this rather than indulge in throwing more mud around, - Dr. AD. HUGGAN, Newcastle upon Tyne.
